Derwent Garden Estate can sleep eighteen people, and has just been renovated to an exceptionally high standard. This dog-friendly luxury self catering accommodation is ideal for families, walkers or anyone wishing to visit this beautiful peaceful part of the National Park.
Situated at the end of a mile long private drive with its own six acre private landscaped gardens, Derwent Estate allows guests to truly relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings.
Derwent is a historic building, its gardens sit on the border of the Lake District National Park with a prime position on a south-facing hillside with a panoramic view of Skiddaw, Grassmoor and the Lorton and Buttermere Valleys.
While renting the Estate, guests have full reign of the staggering six acre gardens which were designed by international landscape and garden designer Thomas Mawson in 1910. They were featured in Cumbria Life magazine in 1998, and in Country Life in June 2000. The gardens are beutiful and very large with many vantage points that give guests different views of the Lake District and the River Derwent below.
There are two stone summerhouses where guests can enjoy an evening tipple overlooking the beautiful view. Right in the heart of the garden, there is a stone BBQ and outside dining area perfect for making the most of any good weather.

Derwent Garden Estate is situated in an amazing position overlooking the mountains of the Western Lake District just two miles from Cockermouth and 20 minutes from the beautiful town of Keswick.
Cockermouth is a pretty market town with a wide, tree-lined and flower-decked main street, boutique shops and a large supermarket. There is an interesting museum, two art galleries, and a sports centre with climbing wall and indoor swimming pool. Cockermouth has a wide range of excellent restaurants and a list of the owner's favourites is included in the welcome pack.
The traditional pastimes of the Lake District are easily accessible at this quieter end of the National Park. The estate is a great place for walkers to stay with so many of the Western Wainwright fells within 15 minutes drive.
There are three golf courses within ten miles, including Silloth, which is consistently voted as one of the top 10 links courses in the country. There is also some of the best fishing in England on the river Derwent.

The lodge will comfortably accommodate up to four people and an infant but unfortunately we cannot accept dogs or pets, due to family allergies.Badger watching is our speciality! Peanuts can be put out on the floodlit verandah and the nightly escapades of the badgers are truly awesome! Both adults and children have spoken about the excitement and privilege of watching these lovely creatures.
The lodge is an ideal base for nature lovers, walkers, families and those who simply want to relax and soak up the beautiful scenery here. At the end of the day, nothing can beat an evening sitting on the verandah, with a glass of wine perhaps, relaxing, listening to the beck nearby and watching the stars!
The Lodge is modern, light and spacious with everything you could possibly need, for a stay in the heart of the English Lake District. From our large windows, there are beautiful views of the Troutbeck Valley and surrounding fells.
Accommodation - the lodge is fully double glazed and centrally heated throughout, making it a cosy retreat at all times of the year. There is a a large, wall mounted TV, plus DVD and CD players and the three seater, leather sofa and large arm chairs are extremely comfortable! The modern fireplace and attractive,... contemporary dining furniture are complemented by matching side tables, large coffee table and a well stocked bookcase. We also have a range of walking guides, maps, DVDs, CDs and games, for both children and adults.
The kitchen is fully equipped with double oven, grill and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, plenty of crockery, cutlery, utensils etc, iron, board and vacuum cleaner. There is also a very useful cupboard with hooks and shelves for coats, bags and boots.
The master bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, shelving, drawers, a dressing table and lights above the bed. The en-suite has a walk in shower, hand basin, toilet, shaving point and heated towel rail.
Bedroom 2 has two full sized single beds, wardrobe, drawers, cupboards and lights above each bed.
A separate main bathroom consists of bath with power shower, hand basin, toilet, shaver point and heated towel rail.
Verandah - From the lounge, French windows lead onto the sunny decking, which is south facing. Flowers, garden furniture and lovely views make it an ideal place for everyone to relax. Young children can play safely too, as the decking is completely enclosed. At the side of the decking, there is a small garden with a BBQ area and our own parking.
Families are most welcome at the lodge and there is a fantastic adventure playground, a special picnic area and also a shallow river pool, together with a large playing field, Lakeland pub, shop and laundrette. Many beautiful walks begin straight from the door of our lodge and you can enjoy cycling, forest trails, bird watching, fishing and so much more.
Wildlife - A variety of woodland birds visit our bird table, whilst buzzards often circle above. Deer, red and grey squirrels, foxes, sheep and ducks may be seen but our favourite visitors are, of course, the badgers!

Located on the outskirts of the beautiful town of Cockermouth, famed for being the birth place of William Wordsworth, his home is open to the public. Less than a 10 minute drive away you reach the Lake District National Park, you can explore the wonders that the lakes has to offer, from hiring a boat on Derwentwater to hiking up a mountain or just exploring the Solway Coast and all that the area has to offer. Within the town of Cockermouth, you have a variety of pubs, restaurants and shops to explore making this lodge ideally situated for your visit. You can try your hand at fishing for salmon and trout in the River Cocker directly in front of the lodge just obtain a permit, you can even watch the ponies and sheep as they graze in the adjoining field, a small play area is available for children. Entering the lodge to a lovely light and bright lounge/kitchen/diner with windows looking out across the river, the kitchen area is equipped with a gas oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer. The lounge area is spacious and comfortable with a sofa and chairs, TV/DVD and CD. The dining table has seating for four and is adjacent to the kitchen area. Leading from the lounge you can access a separate WC further down the hall and then you have the shower room with shower cubicle and WC. At the end of hallway, you have a single bedroom which can double up as a play room leading onto the double bedroom and the twin. The log cabin is set in an idyllic woodland surrounding which is situated between Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge, with a variety of local pubs, restaurants, cafes and numerous shops for you to explore. Nearby you also have a vast choice of walking and cycling routes and fishing opportunities to choose from, making this area a haven for nature lovers and those who like to explore on foot. The popular Langdale Pikes are only a short drive away, and Windermere and Bowness are also close by with plenty to see and do including water sports. Descend the steps to the lodge where you enter through the front door, into the spacious open plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The kitchen area includes an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and coffee machine, the perfect spot to prepare a family meal. The dining area is positioned between the kitchen and the lounge where you can enjoy the resulting meal together. Heading on to the lounge area, you have a relaxing leather sofa to relax on with a Smart TV/DVD with Netflix and Xbox One, and a coal effect electric fire. From the lounge area you will find the shower room with shower and WC, and from here you can also lead onto the spacious double bedroom with patio doors and views into the woods. The single bedroom, also accessed from the lounge, is spacious and looks towards the woodland area. Outside of the lodge is a terrace area with seating and woodland views, a great spot for al fresco dining. You can also take advantage of the on site facilities including a swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, there is also a shared utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. There is allocated parking for two cars, and several steps from here down to the lodge.
