Facilities
A car is advisable to make the most of your holiday.
Wifi service in the area is not consistent nor particularly fast, and hence the service cannot be guaranteed. It is usually sufficient for picking up emails etc but not for streaming films etc. It is sometimes necessary to move around to pick up a signal.
Please note that due to the elevated lodge positions of Kingfisher and Woodpecker they are accessed on foot from the parking area via approximately 20 steps and internally there is a steep staircase. Please therefore do not book this lodge if you have mobility issues.

Located in Bideford, this lodge is on a river. The area's natural beauty can be seen at North Devon Coast and Northam Burrows Country Park, while The Burton Art Gallery and Museum and The Plough Arts Centre are cultural highlights. The bedrooms and bathroom (with walk in shower) lead of the main living area and the front door opens out onto a sheltered decking, the ideal spot to sit with a book or your morning coffee.

Our property borders one of the three large communal lawns so there is plenty of space for children to kick a ball around in the summer. All the greens and gardens are superbly maintained and there is easy access to the private ramp down to the promenade and the parking is not too far away.

Picnic benches are also situated throughout the site with a perfect BBQ area at the bottom of the slope towards the promenade, managed by the local council.

We are only a short walk along the promenade from the restaurants, cafes, shops and amenities of Westward Ho! and the two miles of Sandy beach.

There is an on site launderette for our guests to use. Prior to Easter 2023, wi-fi is an additional cost of £15 per week, after this we will be able to offer complementary internet.

No 33 is a smart, newly renovated chalet in an ideal frontline coastal location on the beautiful South Devon Coastal path . The property has the most spectacular panoramic and interesting sea views .It is on a quiet , well looked after private estate of wooden chalets set above several small sandy beaches and overlooking Plymouth Sound and directly across to the unspoilt coastline of South East Cornwall.
The sandy beaches , complete with rock pools, are just below the chalet, accessed by cliff paths from the general car park . There is also a good cafe ( very friendly)serving food throughout the day,( also with amazing seaviews )at the entrance to the estate, and a little shop for milk, small range of groceries, beach toys and ice creams,etc. ( not always open)
The village of Down Thomas has a good pub, The Mussel Inn, and can be reached by a footpath near the chalet or a short 5 min drive drive up Bovisand Lane. There is also another good pub/ restaurant, The Eddystone, at nearby Heybrook Bay, which can be reached by a short car ride or by walking the beautiful coastal path towards Wembury. This pub is set above a small rocky bay and has amazing views of The Eddystone Lighthouse in good weather.
There is also a boat service from nearby Mountbatten that runs backwards and forwards across to the historic Barbican / Plymouth Hoe area of Plymouth at a very reasonable price.
There are numerous supermarkets for bigger shops within a short drive, both in nearby Plymstock or in Plymouth itself.Plymouth is an easy drive from the chalet and has a fabulous waterfront, The National Marine Aquarium, Theatre, Vue cinema,numerous restaurants, especially on the historic Barbican and along the extensive Plymouth waterfront. The whole South Hams ANOB area is within an easy daytrip drive of the chalet, as is access to the Dartmoor National Park .
The property is accessed by a short level path from the chalets nearby designated parking area . A weekly or daily parking ticket should be purchased from the machine in the nearby general car park area of the estate. This parking is run by a National Car park Company and currently, 2022, the charges are £5 a day, £30 a week in high season, £2-50 a day, £25 a week in low season after October 1 st. There is designated parking for no 33 near the chalet.
There are a couple of steps up onto the paved terrace (furnished with loungers, table and comfortable chairs ))and which has an “infinity pool “ type view of the whole of Plymouth Sound , Plymouth Breakwater and across to the unspoilt Cornish Rame peninsular. The sunset views can be stunning from our terrace, best enjoyed from a lounger with a glass of chilled wine!
Access into the chalet is by large french doors opening into a smartly furnished living room/ kitchen , again with stunning sea views. There is a freeview television, 3 seater sofa and chair, small table and 4 chairs ( for indoor dining)new grey unit fitted kitchen and back door to the sheltered and very private small back courtyard, also provided with a table and chairs to sit around for breakfast(, if you want to be completely private and keep your pyjamas on for eating breakfast!) in this courtyard. there is an attractive raised flower bed with herbs / parsleyyou are welcome to use)
The front double bedroom ( 4ft 6 “ bed, very comfortable memory foam topper)has lovely sea views from the bed, a small wardrobe, oil fired heater , bedside cupboards , chest of drawers and table lamps.
The 2 nd bedroom looks out to the back courtyard and has twin beds( 2 ft 6 “ with memory foam toppers) which can be pushed together as a5 ft bed ( as in photo)or separated as 2 singles as required. It also has a tall set of drawers and a bedside cupboard , oil fired heater and table lamp.
There is a compact but efficient shower room/ toilet with heated towel rail, an electric shower and openable window to back courtyard.
There is very good mobile phone reception , good wifi throughout the chalet ,also a good TV signal at this property. Password is provided for the wifi in the chalet information book, which also has instructions on use of fitting in the chalet and rules of the estate.
Please note ,no pets , BBQs or smoking allowed in this property. BBQs are also not allowed on the estate or beaches due to the fire risk to the wooden chalets and surrounding cliffs. As can be seen from the photo gallery, the beaches are below the chalet cliff reached by concrete paths with steps and handrail. One beach , the first near the entrance to the estate has a path without steps.
We do request that our guests are also mindful to respect the privacy and quiet enjoyment of their chalets by other guests and owner occupiers on the Bovisand estate.
