East Anglia is Constable country, though he allegedly preferred haywains to log cabins. Perhaps if he had stayed in one of the fabulous luxury lodges on the Suffolk coast or the Norfolk Broads he might have changed his mind.
Apart from the Norfolk Broads, this area offers traditional seaside resorts, ranging from Skegness (It's so bracing!) to the more sophisticated Southwold. Cambridge, Ely, Norfolk and Lincoln offer some of the most dramatic cathedrals and historic buildings in the UK, given more drama by the general flatness of the countryside.
A local curiosity is Hunstanton, the only place on the East coast where you can watch the sun set over the sea. Bear in mind that roads in the region tend to be slow, and adjust your pace accordingly. North Norfolk offers a facinating glimpse into how the coastline has moved over the years, with historic ports now miles from the sea. Gorleston on sea is a special treat for beach lovers.
