Cabin 16 ‘Duart’ is a cosy cabin,situated in approx 1/4 acre of grassland,almost on the loch side,with a stunning view over Loch Awe.
The accomodation consists of: an open plan lounge / dining / kitchen area, two bedrooms and shower room / toilet. The lounge area has: freeview television (5 channels), cottage suite, and dining table. The kitchen is equipped with a four ring electric cooker and oven, fridge with icebox compartment, microwave, toaster and kettle. A full range of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery is provided. There is access to the balcony from the lounge area, where you can enjoy an "al fresco" meal, or simply contemplate the view over a glass of wine or a "wee dram".
The shower room has: a tiled floor, electric shower, wash hand basin and toilet.
Bedroom #1. Double bed, built in, clothes hanging space and chest of drawers,
Bedroom#2. Three bunk beds, one on top of the other, suitable for adults or children, and built in clothes hanging space.
The cabin is double glazed and electrically heated and is perfectly suitable for autumn and winter breaks. The cabin is approx 10 yards from the loch side. Parking space for two cars is to the rear of the cabin. This is a non smoking cabin.
The cabin is approximately five minutes walk from the village of Dalavich which has a shop, cafe and post office where you can enjoy a morning coffee, light lunch and stock up with groceries. It also has a range of gifts, outdoor accessories and fishing equipment. Take-away meals are also available from the cafe.
A social club with a bar and restaurant, which is owned and run by the community is situated at the entrance of the cabin site. Guests from the cabins are warmly welcomed. The bar is open 7 nights a week (April to October) and 4 nights a week (November to March). The restaurant, ‘The Lochview Grill’ is open for evening meals Thursday to Sunday. A coin-operated laundrette is also available on site. Wifi is available in the Social Club.
Boats with or without outboard engines are available from Thomas MacPherson at the Loch side Marina in the village. Thomas can also sell you a fishing permit for both Loch Awe and Loch Avich. There are many beautiful forest walks in the area, including The Oakwood Trail, The Avich Falls Trail and Duncan's Walk, all of which meander through ancient oak and pine forests. Pine marten, fox, wild cats, red deer, roe deer, otter and red squirrels can often be seenin the area. There are also regular sightings of eagles and ospreys. Apart from the signed trails, there is up to 100 miles of forest tracks and roads in the area, suitable for the serious walker or mountain biker.
Loch Awe itself is beautiful, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and as of now, still under-developed with no noisy watersports to shatter the peace. It has islands worth visiting, including Innis Chonnel Castle, the first stronghold of the Campbells. The remains of Crannogs; pre historic island hut settlements, can still be seen when the loch is low, at different points along the lochside. The fishing is legendary with monster trout up to 30lb (~14Kg), salmon, sea trout, pike, perch, char etc, depending on the season.
There are good pub and hotel restuarants in the area, including The Kilchrenan Inn, (7½miles) The Taycreggan Hotel (7½miles) and the Taynuilt Hotel (15 miles), all of which come highly recommended. In Oban itself (50 minute drive) there are many hotels, restaurants and cafes to suit every taste and pocket.
Oban
About 50 minutes drive from Dalavich, a seaside town and fishing port, from where ferries run to the islands of Mull, Iona, Colonsay, Staffa and Tiree.
Oban Distillery
Take a guided tour around this old distillery and sample its wares! Open to the public from Easter to October.
Cruachan Power Station
Take a tour of this modern hydro electric power station at the northern end of Loch Awe, set deep inside the mountain. Open to the public from Easter to November.
Inverary Castle
The ancestral home of The Duke & Duchess of Argyll. Open to the public from April to October.
Loch Fyne Whiskies

Inverary Gaol
A 19th century gaol and court room manned by guides in period costume. Listen to the trial in the court room and hear the sentence of transportation to the New World. Well worth a visit.
Auchindrain Village
Situated approximately six miles south of Inverary on the A83. An original and old highland village that has been preserved, restored and furnished, depicting life as it really was in The Highlands over past centuries.
Kilmartin Glen & Museum
Picturesque village with a museum that is well worth a visit. The immediate area contains a wealth of natural, historical and archaelogical features unsurpassed anywhere in Britain.
Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park
Situated near Glencruittan, Oban; a 35 acre site dedicated to conserve rare breed farm animals. Open daily from March to 3rd November. Weekends only from November to December. Tearoom onsite.

Carnasserie Castle
Off the A816, nine miles north of Lochgilphead. Originally the home of John Carswell, 1st Bishop of the Isles. Captured and partially blown-up during Argyll's Rebellion of 1685
Kilchurn Castle
At the north eastern corner of Loch Awe lies Kilchurn Castle, built in the 15th century by Sir Colin Campbell and is probably the most photographed castle in Scotland. The castle is open from April through to September each year and is well worth a visit. Access is via a short boat trip from the pier in Loch Awe village or by foot from the side of the A85 near the railway viaduct.
Glencoe
Visit this spectacular glen just east of Ballachulish on the A82. Scene of the infamous massacre of the MacDonalds in 1692 by elements of Argyle's Regiment under the command of Capt. Campbell of Glenlyon.

A newly built log cabin with everything you need for a comfortable relaxing stay.
The wee Dookit has a double bedroom with ample overnight storage and hanging space
It has a beautiful oak bed with an aloe Vera mattress for a warm and comfortable sleep.
There is also a hairdryer for guests to use.


Sitting area
This is a very cosy space with a comfortable de luxe double sofa bed and ottoman - there is a smart TV - Wifi - coffee / tea and biscuits for you to enjoy. It’s a peaceful place to relax at the end of a busy day. The sofa bed is suitable for 2 small children to share - or if you are ok with small spaces you could have a couple overnight. It a very comfortable cabin for 2 persons and slightly smaller for 4 adults who share!


Bathroom
Beautifully appointed with a lovely shower - wet wall lined and has everything you need including shampoo, shower gel and hand soap.


All areas have very efficient electric heaters - the cabin is double glazed and well insulated walls so that guests can stay year round
We provide lovely bath sheets and hand towels and nice fresh crisp linens .


Garden
We have a deck for you to enjoy a seat outside if you wish at coffee time - or have a glass of wine in the evenings .

Guest access is self entry if I am not here and I will give you instructions prior to your arrival.

Interaction with guests
I will generally be on site but am always available on the phone if needed to answer any queries.

PS I do not have any cooking faciites as my thought is that most use it as an overnighter and not somewhere to sit all day – but I also offer full breakfast or dinner inside my own house in the conservatory if pre booked.

Introducing Cow Parsley along with cutesy retro caravan, Colin!
Accommodating up to four guests, Cow Parsley makes clever use of space with one 4'6" double bed with a full size single bunk bed above, and seating which converts to another single bed (3’ x 6’) when required. Creative storage solutions ensure that every area is well utilised.

The hut features a small galley kitchen area with small larder, an electric two ring hob, a microwave combination oven, under-counter fridge, toaster, kettle, and a DAB radio.

There is also a breakfast bar dining space for up to four guests. Just off the kitchen is a small bathroom with electric shower, basin and WC.

For the cooler months the hut is super-insulated and has electric tubular heating and an electric ‘real flame effect’ stove.

Guests can also hire Colin, a cutesy retro caravan at £20 per night (subject to availability) where the younger members of the family can have their own little mini adventure - a fun den for day use but set-up for sleeping capacity too!

Two dogs are welcome and there are kennels on site if required. Horses are welcome with prior notice. There is grazing and stabling available on site at additional cost.

Cow Parsley sits alongside two further shepherd's huts, Foxglove and Teasel, each sleeping up to four guests which are ideal for guests who wish to holiday together. Foxglove is also adapted for guests who are mobility impaired.

GROUND FLOOR
Accommodating four guests with one king size bed (5’ x 6’ 3”) and a full size single bunk bed (3’ x 6’ 3”) above. To maximise space, a bench seat folds neatly into a further single bed.

The hut features a galley kitchen with an electric two ring hob, a microwave combination oven, under-counter fridge, toaster, kettle and DAB radio. There is a small extendable dining table for up to four guests.

OUTSIDE
Cow Parsley sits in a paddock with two further shepherd’s huts, Foxglove and Teasel, each sleeping up to four guests.

There is a picnic table and garden furniture, and a fire pit can be made available on request.

PARKING
No vehicle access is permitted in the paddock where the shepherd’s huts are located, and parking sits to the left of the farm entrance which is approximately 50 yards from the site entrance.

BABIES & CHILDREN
Cow Parsley is not particularly suited to babies and infants.

The inner paddock where the shepherd’s hut is located is fully enclosed, however the adjoining field has a pond and younger children will require supervision around this area.

DOGS
Two dogs are welcome with a charge of £15 per dog. Dogs must be clean and dry before access into the hut and must be kept off the beds. An outside tap is available. The inner paddock where the hut is located is fully enclosed.

The ecopod is in a quiet corner of our smallholding, 30m from the end of our cottage, in lovely beech trees, home to red squirrels. You can see the stars at night.

Please note, we NEVER accept pets so please don't ask. If you have a registered Assistance Dog trained not to chase birds and animals you are very welcome. Please check with us before booking to ensure we can meet the needs of you and your dog. If you are allergic to dogs please check with us to make sure we have not had an Assistance Dog to stay.

The space
During your visit, you are likely to see red squirrels, deer, birds of prey, and numerous other birds in the vicinity. If you are exceptionally lucky, you may even catch sight of the elusive and highly endangered Scottish Wildcat, osprey and golden eagles. Hens and ducks roam free round the garden.

We are 200 metres from the river Spey where you can go fishing with a locally bought permit. The ecopod is the perfect location to experience outdoor sporting activities such as skiing, sailing, hillwalking, climbing, and mountain biking. The area is also full of heritage and history.

There is ample parking and you can put your bicycles in our stable overnight.

We live very nearby to the ecopod, so there will usually always be someone around to answer any questions.
