Eagle comprises of 2 bedrooms and has recently been refurbished to include hand made curtains and soft furnishings made by Catriona McGeoch of Sula Furnishings.

The bedroom configuration is a king sized double and twin bedroom. A fitted kitchen with all mod cons to include washing machine, dishwasher, oven and ceramic hob, microwave and under counter fridge and freezer.
An open plan living and dining area leads onto a private balcony through a sliding patio with a panoramic view of Loch Iubhair (pronounced Ewar) and the dramatic rugged mountains of Glen Dochart. All can be viewed from the garden furniture provided. Gaze the other direction and marvel at the iconic mountain of Ben More that rises from your back garden. Simply stunning.

The chalet is equipped with a LCD TV with freeview SKY, Blu Ray DVD, Wi-Fi is available free of charge as well as Weber BBQ hire. There is even an onsite visitor centre with a small essentials shop, fresh organic meat from a farm locally for sale (perfect for a BBQ or home cooking), Lucy's home made meals, local information, a varied selection of board games and DVDs.

The Portnellan Estate has been privately owned by the same family for nearly 40 years and offers fantastic facilities including fresh run wild salmon and trout fishing on the estate lochs and river, mountain bikes with plenty of trails on and off road for all abilities, a games room with table tennis, table football, pool table and a small gym. Canadian canoes, kayaks and rowing boats are free to use on the river and loch. Clay pigeon shooting can also be arranged.

Portnellan Estate is the perfect base for exploring Central/West Scotland with known landmarks only a short distance away. Oban 45 minutes, Stirling, Fort William and Glasgow just over 1 hour and Edinburgh a 90 min drive. Glen Coe and all it beholds is less than 40 mins drive and the bonnie shores of Loch Lomond are 20 mins by car. Other areas include the truly beautiful Glen Lyon and Loch Tay, Glen Etive, Glen Lochay and Glen Orchy all within the local area.

Easdale Escape enjoys a wonderfully remote location on Easdale Island, just off the coast from Oban. The island is seventeen miles from Oban, the stop for catching the ferry to the island. The island is steeped in the history of the slate industry and enjoys scenery that will take your breath away. It is incredibly peaceful with no cars on the island.

The Easdale Island Museum is where you can learn about the slate quarry industry and the lives of the residents who lived and worked on the island through the years. The museum is open from April to the end of October.

Guests staying at the cottage enjoy guided seaweed foraging. You can explore the edible seashore on a fun foraging foray, finding out what seaweeds are good and tasty to eat. You will sample the seaweeds in season and get tips on how to cook with them. The trip is finished with a hot drink or warm soup and a snack.

One of the favourite activities is a Seafari Adventure. You will enjoy exceptional wildlife and nature boat trips to spot whales, porpoises, dolphins, seals, and sea birds. You will experience the Gulf of Corryvreckan, the home of the world’s third largest whirlpool. There are day tours to Iona, Staffa and the puffin colony and whale watching trips during June, July and August. Tours to the Corryvreckan take you into the Atlantic and around the islands of Luing, Scarba, Shuna, Lunga and Jura. The whirlpool is created when strong Atlantic currents and unusual underwater topography produce an intense tidal race in the channel. As the flood tide enters the narrow strait between Jura and Scarb, it speeds up to 8.5 knots.

Easdale Island is an excellent base for sea kayakers who want to explore the small islands of the Inner Hebrides and the rugged coast of Argyll. Sea Kayak Scotland, based in Balvicar five miles away offer hire equipment. Fishing is also popular in the island’s seven flooded quarries. One of the flooded quarries is a natural swimming pool, shallow at one end and deep at the other. It is very popular for outdoor swimming as it is reasonably warm in the summer.

Every year in late September, The World Stone Skimming Championships take place across the Skimming Quarry. It attracts roughly one thousand people from near and far for this fun activity.

Back on the mainland, Oban is a magnet for travellers from all over the world. It owes much to the Victorians. Back in 1812, the Comet steamship linked Oban with Glasgow. The town grew up around Oban Distillery. It once had the royal seal of approval with Queen Victoria calling it ‘one of the finest spots she had seen’. You will taste some of the best fish ever in Oban and can pick up supplies of freshly caught fish for the cottage. Beyond Oban lie the islands of the Inner Hebrides including Easdale. Kerrera protects the town from Atlantic storms. Others include the low green island of Lismore, majestic Mull, the sacred island of Iona plus Coll, Colonsay and Tiree. The granite mountains of the Morvern peninsula are spectacular. Oban offers panoramic views of the mountains, lochs and islands which have captivated artists, authors, composers, and poets for centuries.

The Crinan Canal is a great day out, an absolute gem stretching from Adrishaig on Loch Fyne for nine miles to Crinan on the banks of the South of Jura. You can visit by boat or stroll along the footbath, enjoying its beauty and watching the local fishermen landing prawns, crabs and lobsters in the basin. Watching the yachts and fishing boats passing through the fifteen locks is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

NHS Arduaine Garden was conceived by J Arthur Campbell and is a wonderful tourist attraction with the intimacy of a private garden. You will enjoy rhododendrons, magnolias, azaleas, exotic palms and ferns. With lush lawns, colourful borders, a pretty walk, ponds and a wonderful variety of bird and wildlife, it is lovely. There are spectacular cliff-top views overlooking the Sound of Jura and its islands.

Carnasserie Castle boasts a 15th century tower house built by the reforming churchman John Carswell, the publisher of the first book printed in Scottish Gaelic. Positioned on a hill overlooking Kilmartin Glen, it is now under the care of historic Scotland.

The adjoining Cairngorm National park covers an area of just over 4.5 thousand square kilometres and is a popular destination for walkers, wildlife and outdoor activities, including seasonal skiing. Adjacent Strathmore is home to many top-class golf courses. Trout fishing, together with the use of 2 boats is yards from the door, and salmon fishing is available on the estates own River Blackwater, as well as the nearby Rivers Ericht, Isla and Tay.

Guests will enjoy the three large reception rooms with both the capacity and grandeur for special occasions. Off the magnificent panelled entrance and hall, they consist of the main drawing room with open fire, bay window with padded window seats, a smaller sitting room with open fire and picture windows, and a large games room with wood-panelled wainscoting, table tennis table, small snooker table and a large seating area. It’s a perfect space for house guests to enjoy a few Scottish reels at the end of the evening with the furniture moved to the edge of the room.

The grand entrance hall is a beautiful space with its decorative wood panelling; wide handcrafted staircase leading up to the first-floor gallery landing. Access to the modern conservatory is off the drawing-room; outside is a paved area with seats, perfect for relaxed BBQ’s.

The dining room with large windows looking out onto the front lawns and hills beyond has a long table seating up to 20 guests. A large sideboard, perfect for buffet breakfasts and formal dinners alike, provides toasters, warmers, glassware and cutlery.

The farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped to cater for groups and comes with a 6 door AGA, together with a range style electric oven and gas hob. There is a cold store, a pantry with 2 dishwashers, a laundry with washing, drying and ironing facilities. There is a boot/gunroom and a WC by the back door.

There is another ground floor WC off the games room. There is separate accommodation for visiting catering staff available by prior request.

The house is set in its own 1500 acre estate and working farm in the Perthshire Hills. Guests are welcome to wander where they will within the constraints of farming activities, keeping dogs on leads or under CLOSE control, and leaving gates as they are found.

The landscaped grounds are a mix of lawns, borders and shrubs. There is a tennis court (please bring your own racquets and balls). There is plenty of parking space at the front and rear.

Dunvegan is great with a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants. It is famous for its eight-hundred-year-old mythical castle and gardens. You can wander around its impressive gardens, grab a bite to eat in the cafe and catch a boat to see the Loch Dunvegan seal colony. The castle has been home to the Clan MacLeod the whole time. Though it may look like one castle, it is actually six buildings that were built in ten stages. The Keep was built in the mid-14th century and is the oldest part still standing. Dunvegan rests in the sea loch between the Waternish and Durinish peninsulas. There are wonderful walks, fishing and the Giant MacAskill Museum. North of Dunvegan, the Claigan coral beaches are perfect for picnics and the Dunvegan bakery is a perfect stop for provisions. The town is rich in eateries from quirky cafes to smart restaurants. Not far from Dunvegan is one of Skye’s most famous Michelin-starred restaurants, The Three Chimneys.

The Isle of Skye offers incredible walks and iconic landscapes. The Waternish peninsula is amazing. You can also explore the fabled ‘Garden of Skye’ on the Sleat peninsula, enjoy action-packed fun on Raasay and taste the finest malt whiskies. Skye’s most majestic geological features include the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and the Cuillin. The island’s varied habitats mean that you could easily see otters, dolphins, golden eagles, white-tailed sea eagles and puffins. The capital of the island is Portree. Other villages in the north worth a stop are Uig and Staffin. Talisker Bay is lovely with a unique panorama. Basalt cliffs rise dramatically on either side of the bay.

Portree is surrounded by hills, Ben Tianavaig to the south, Suidh Fhinn or Fingal’s Seat to the west and the smaller Ben Chrachaig to the north. Further north is the Old Man of Storr. Portree is only about two hundred years old, originally a fishing village created by the then Lord MacDonald. It is brimming with cafes, restaurants, banks, churches, gift shops, a cinema, a swimming pool and a tourist information centre. The town hosts numerous annual events such as the Portree Show, the Isle of Skye half marathon and the island’s largest event, the Skye Highland Games. It is very pretty with rows of colourful cottages lining up.

"Serenio" ( Serene Studio ;) is purposely built to host our relatives when staying with us in the beautiful scenic surroundings of the Pentland Hills close to Edinburgh. More and more friends-of-friends have discovered our hideway so we are now managing it through this portal.

It's setting is idyllic and private in 2 acres of woodland also providing space to enjoy and for our chickens, goats and pig to roam. Located about 300m above sea level there are fantastic views over the hills down to the Firth of Forth with Edinburgh Castle in the distant skyline.
