For a gentler day of sightseeing, why not head to Wells Cathedral City, just over thirty minutes’ drive away. The stunning Anglican Cathedral dates as far back as 1239 and has one of the oldest working clock mechanisms in Britain within its beautiful structure. For more historic inspiration, make sure you take a trip to Vicar’s Close, believed to be the oldest residential street with original buildings survived to this day, dating back to the 14th Century.

The famous music festival town of Glastonbury is well worth a visit at any time of the year, with a rich history steeped in ancient myth. Believed to be King Arthur’s burial place, Glastonbury Abbey’s ruins are a fascinating display of 7th Century architecture, with museums and Iron Age exhibits found across the town celebrating its rich culture and history.

Just forty minutes away is the lovely city of Bath, once a Roman spa retreat. Live it up like a Roman in the mineral-rich rooftop pool at Thermae Bath Spa, a fantastic spot to unwind in the heated water and take in the panoramic views. Then pay a visit to the historic Roman Baths, well-preserved thermae dating back to the Fifth Century AD. Although visitors cannot access the water, you can marvel at the Roman Temples, Sacred Spring, and survey historic artifacts at the museum.
