A romantic getaway in a stunning location 2

Wedmore, Somerset, South West of England

A romantic getaway in a stunning location From £441 Availability

Mowbarton Shepherd's Hut provides beautifully compact living accommodation for two in a delightful setting with some wonderful views. The Hut itself is built on traditional lines but with a luxury finish cleverly designed by Somerset craftsmen to combine complete 21st century comfort with the nostalgia of a rural idyll. There's seating and a table for four which cunningly converts into a cosy double bed, 'the most comfortable we've ever slept in' according to one set of guests! The Hut is fully double-glazed and insulated, and stays wonderfully warm thanks to an efficient little log-burning stove. A two-ringed hob, sink and small fridge complete the living area, and a proper loo, hand basin and ultra-modern shower cubicle complete the picture: glamping in the truest sense of the word...

The Shepherd’s Hut is set on a site of almost two acres which includes a large sloping wildlife meadow, a couple of wide expanses of grass, recently planted with a selection of native trees and shrubs. Tucked away right behind the Hut is the former farmyard which provides a secure parking area and is also the site of the vineyard shed, home to the tractor and other wine-growing equipment. Apart from the odd bustle at certain times of the season, as the tractor goes in or out (just up the lane to our own Mowbarton Estate vineyard), all the activity on this secluded site is from wildlife: there's a badger's sett on the boundary, plenty of rabbit warrens and masses of birds. Buzzards, sparrowhawks, woodpeckers, owls and goldfinches are always around, and in the spring we often hear a cuckoo. Weasels have also been spotted - and even a kingfisher!

Because of all the wildlife - and often livestock in neighbouring fields - we don’t allow pets at Mowbarton. Sorry!

As well as being the ideal getaway from everyday life, Mowbarton Shepherd's Hut is a perfect choice for birthday and anniversary weekends and for honeymoons. If you're getting married in Somerset, where better to spend your first night (or more) of married bliss? Wedding parties have also booked Mowbarton Barn, just across the lane, for friends and family before the big day. It's completely separate, in its own walled garden, but also rather handy!

And what about empty-nesters? Start your own adventurous gap year with a couple of nights in the Shepherd's Hut... Cosy and snug in winter, cool and comfortable in the summer - this is a Hut for all seasons!

Located in Wedmore, this cabin is in a rural area and by the sea. Lake Village Museum and Rural Life Museum are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Coombes Cider Farm and Cheddar Crazy Golf. Ashton Windmill and The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Co. are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
