The Hikers' Hut at Highcliff, is a magical timber hut with stunning sea views over the east coast of the Isle of Wight. Situated on the cliff edge 100m above the shoreline between Shanklin and Ventnor, the famous Isle of Wight Coastal Path is at the front gate. The Hut borders a National Trust field and is a perfect cabin for hikers, bird watchers, beach goers and nature lovers. With its own separate entrance and garden, it sits in the apple orchard of Highcliff Estate, Luccombe.

The Hikers' Hut includes, one double bed on a mezzanine and two singles in bunk beds on the ground floor. A small kitchenette includes under counter fridge/freezer, microwave with grill, and a two hob burner. The hut also has an ensuite shower room. There are dining tables inside and out on the deck.

The Highcliff Estate sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Each side of the Highcliff Estate is bounded by National Trust property. Haddons Pit to the north is maintained by the National Trust as grassland, usually grazed by a few cattle in the summer, and visited by over 100 migratory bird species including locally nesting peregrine falcons. The garden at Highcliff is also a popular wildlife destination, so keep your eyes peeled for the butterflies, red squirrels, barn owls, pheasants, woodpeckers and the "black rabbits".

You may also see the occasional para-glider floating above the hut having launched off from Haddon's Pit next door or listen out for a Spitfire flyby, you will hear their lovely engines first. The Coastguard helicopter is another frequent sighting.

Getting to the Hikers' Hut:

On foot:
It is an easy destination on foot for those on a walking holiday coming via Portsmouth. Catch the Wightlink passenger ferry from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier Head, then the little red Island train (a 1930's London tube train) from Ryde Pier to Shanklin, and then its a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute (£6) taxi ride to the Hikers Hut.



Located in Shanklin, this cabin is in a rural area and on the waterfront. Shanklin Theatre and Dinosaur Isle are cultural highlights, and some of the area's landmarks include Shanklin Old Village and Appuldurcombe House. The space
Welcome to our beautiful off grid Shepherds hut with separate Shepherds hut private bathroom, both huts are set in idillic country side setting away from all the hustle and bustle of modern life. lighting in the Shepherds hut is solar powered and controlled with a hand remote. There is also a solar usb charger for your phones. Additional battery lamps are also provided as back up, it also has its own battery operated pretty fairy lights for a romantic setting.

Separate small shepherds hut houses chemical toilet with flush, basin and hot rain shower. Water to the basin and shower is hot and heated by a LPG gas heater. There is also a remote control solar light and additional battery operated lanterns inside the hut.

The sleeping hut houses a kitchen, and a raised double bed and there is room under the bed for hanging clothes and additional space for a floor double pocket sprung mattress. Children love sleeping in this area as it feels like their own den.

The kitchen area in the Shepherds Hut has gas single hob and gas built in oven. There is also a sink and hot and cold tap. Washing up liquid, cloths and tea towels provided. We also have a 3 way cold fridge that runs from lpg gas. We provide milk, tea, coffee, eggs and sugar for your stay. Cutlery and crockery is found in the inside camp kitchen, along with a rubbish bin. Dinning can either be around the camp fire or if the weather isn’t up to it then we have a small table stored under the bed in the Shepherds Hut, that can be brought out and used inside the shepherds hut for cozy feel. The shepherds hut is insulated with wool and there is a wood burning stove for heat. (Wood provided).

The outside kitchen has a wood fire pit with tripod to hang kettle and pots on to boil water or toast your marshmallows, which we will provide for you. We also have cast iron toasted sandwich maker, frying pans and pots to cook over the open fire with. Wood is also provided for your stay along with fire lighters and matches. The outside area has a large fire pit and griddle for outdoor cooking. We also have a bbq. Wood will be supplied daily throughout your stay for use on the fire pit.

The huts have outdoor solar fairy lights that come on when it gets dark and there are candles outside to use around camp fire for a relaxed setting. Also outside on raised oak floor is a beautiful slipper bath with hot and cold water. Bath outside under candle light and twinkling of stars at night. The bath is behind a modesty screen, which allows you to take in the open views of the river and fields during the day, whilst maintaining your privacy.
Guest access
The site is accessed down a track. It’s about 400 meter walk from the car parking area. We can take luggage down using our miniature tractor and trailer if required
Other things to note
Our off grid Glamping units are only open from 1st April to the 31st October. Our large Shepherds hut with Hot tub is open all year round. We have no wi fi, but 4G works fine on site. Also if you require a tv then please let us know and we can supply a small lap top/dvd player which can be kept charged at our house and will give you a few hours of battery life before needing a recharge. Please contact me if you want to book for larger family groups in my other huts with Scandinavian Hot tub for availability.
