Newlyn Cottage enjoys a fabulous, hillside location overlooking the charming fishing village of Newlyn. It is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK, with over 40 acres of harbour. All sorts of fishing vessels can be seen in the attractive harbour including beam trawlers, long liners, crabbers and small open boats used for hand-lining of mackerel in the bay. It is a sight to see! Newlyn has several galleries, some charming pubs and several cosy restaurants. The Newlyn Christmas lights are launched annually along with tunes from the Newlyn Male Voice Choir and followed by a traditional firework display. It is worth getting up early to experience the bustling fish market. The Newlyn Fish Festival is held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday when stalls and cafes take over the quays for the day.

The much loved fishing village of Mousehole boasts an even more famous Christmas light display and offers delightful original character, charm and beauty. The picturesque harbour is surrounded by narrow streets and yellow lichened houses, all huddled together. You will find pretty galleries, gift shops and restaurants along the harbour road. Make sure you take your camera!

Land’s End is famous for being the most south-westerly point in Britain. It is one of the most beautiful, naturally wild and unspoilt spots in Cornwall. The former smallholding is also known as the ‘First and Last’ due to its status as both the starting and ending point of the journey to or from John O’Groats in Scotland, the longest journey in the UK. It is definitely a must-visit with beautiful stretches of ancient coastline and awe-inspiring views. The first recorded name of Land’s End was ‘Penwith Steort’ dating back to 997. The iconic Land’s End signpost was established in the 1950’s when a local family-run business erected the now legendary Cornish icon.

Penzance is a major tourist and commercial centre in West Cornwall. The town is steeped in history with many monuments and historic sites. It boasts dramatic beaches and cliffs and offers much entertainment as well as hundreds of cafes and restaurants. On the moorland surrounding Penzance, there are numerous pre-historic Neolithic and Bronze Age tombs, monuments and settlements, some dating from over 5000 years ago.

Be sure to try a Cornish pasty and delicious sweet Saffron buns (fruit buns flavoured with saffron), and of course a little Cornish Clotted cream and Ice Cream! And for a local tipple, the three major breweries of St Austell, Sharps and Skinners serve excellent beer in pubs throughout the county, and because of its mild climate Cornwall has a number of vineyards producing delicious wine, and is even known for its production of honey (mead) wine!

There are many enchanting towns in Cornwall, some famous ones include: Bude, with excellent beaches, first class surfing and a laid back, relaxed vibe in Cornwall's northern coast; Newquay, just on the doorstep, is the surfing capital of the UK; while St Ives is home to a branch of the Tate Gallery, white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters! Though in many ways, the magic of the county really happens in the Cornish landscape. But if you do fancy a city-trip, for a little retail therapy, or perhaps to see a show, the only one in the county is Truro! High Tea at Charlotte's offers an unmissable experience, in the charming Victorian building on Boscowen Street with Cornish-grown tea! Plus there are two covered markets, one selling eco/organic products, and on Saturday mornings there’s a great farmers' market on the piazza where you can find all kinds of local produce.

Getting to Cornwall is being made easier every year, with ever-improving roads and trains running right through to Penzance in the far south-west of the county, and there are three very useful airports nearby in Newquay, Exeter and Bristol, all of which have car hire available on arrival.

You will learn the story of the famous ‘Obby’ Oss, the ancient ritual played out in the town every May Day. The event revolves around the two Obby Osses (hobby horses) which resemble a one-man pantomime horse. The idea is that they are in search of maidens and are followed by a team of morris dancing types, dressed in white and playing accordions and banging drums. It dates back to pre-Christian times. Wadebridge enjoys a fascinating history, originating from 1313 when a market and two fairs were granted to Wade. Its fifteenth century bridge across the River Camel is stunning with seventeen arches along its three hundred and twenty foot length. The bridge was built by the Reverend Lovibond in 1460 with legend saying that the wealthy landowners who paid for it made their money from wool. Cycles can be hired to explore the Camel Trail and the surrounding countryside. Wadebridge’s leisure centre offers swimming, squash, weights, a solarium and more. Wadesbridge is on the Camel Trail. In June every year, Wadebridge is the site of the magnificent Royal Cornwall Show, one of the largest agricultural shows held in the country.
